Thinking of FINALLY trying a spray tan.......any advice would be appreciated.
Where should I go? (I live in Bethesda) Any insider tips on how to get a natural looking/ non-streaky/golden glow? Want to look nice for an upcoming weekend away w/ DH to celebrate our anniversary. Thanks! |

Don't do what Ross did on 'Friends'...
just kidding.. I have not done it either. I stick to Loreal Sublime Bronze lotion and love it. Good Luck! Maybe check out old Washingtonian articles? |

I would try to find a place where a person sprays the tan on you. With the booths I understand your hands and feet look REALLY bad. I did a natural sugar spray tan in FL once and it looked pretty good.
You'll have to leave your inhibitions at the door as you get totally naked and stand there while someone sprays a cold mist all over your body...TWICE. I live in NoVA and have yet to find a place that uses the same product I used in FL. Good luck! |
| I've done it several times at palm beach tan & except for the 1st day (which you looks REALLY tan) it looks great. Don't plan on doing anything the evening you have it done. I wash my hands immediately afterwards. |
| Is Palm Beach Tan a place where the person sprays it on you? I did this once at Potomac Day Spa and it worked out well, but they don't do it anymore. |
| Why not just use a self-tanner??? |
| I spray tanned for the first time on vacation and it was hilarious. They will offer you an accelerator to put on before you tan -- it is a lotion or gel. It costs extra. Buy it and use it. When they are showing you how to turn around in the spray booth -- MEMORIZE IT. After you are done, rub every inch of your body and face so that the spray is not pooling and draining or dripping. Blot off any excess. I might have avoided the giant streaks on my legs and feet. Oh and don't wear any of your nice bras for days afterward since the stuff rubs of on the interior. My face looked great. Legs and hands not so much. I agree about washing hands after. |
| PP you must have done the tinted spray tan..I've tried that one and the clear goes on much smoother I think. It's basically just the machine spraying you with the same type of self-tanner you could rub on yourself..but the machine does it much more evenly than I could. Put plenty of the lotion they give you on your hands and feet or they will come out too dark. And of course don't forget to turn around at the right time! The friends episode made it look more complicated than it is...and it's about half the price of the person-applied airbrush tans. |
| At palm beach you stand in the booth & turn around 1/2 way through. They provide a barrier cream for places you don't want the tan (palms, in between fingers, things like that). I think it looks nice (after 24 hours). It is great for an event. |

I've done the mystic tan at Palm Beach Tan twice. There's one on Rockville Pike, not far from Bethesda.
It doesn't last that long, but it's not bad. The first time, the tan looked very even. The second time, I had a few spots where they was some streaking but it may have been because I didn't wipe off afterwards evenly enough. Give it a try! I don't necessarily think you need to go find a place that has a person do it for you. The machine is fine. |
