How did your child find the high school magnet test for Blair and RMIB?

Curious how your kids felt about it. Mine found it hard to finish in the time given. He managed but it was difficult.

My daughter said it was a very hard test and she had to guess a lot. Curious what others found as well?

I also heard that several kids had trouble completing the CAP test as well. First I had heard of that, but it was definitely a lot of kids, not just one or two.

DS felt it was pretty easy and wished it was more challenging. We are starting to wonder whether the IB program is going to be hard for him.

My current Takoma kid said test was fine. Math is easier than SAT (child practiced SAT in the book), English was regular (just read and answer questions), Logic was fun, and essay is essay...
"I think, I did fine."

Mine said English and Logic were easy but ran a bit short of time on Math...so maybe it wasn't quite that easy!

Mine ran short of time on reading comp and had to guess at the last several answers.

Same here. Off to private school for us!

On the basis of taking the test? Before you even know how they scored?

Which private school do you feel will be more challenging than these magnets?

wow! so what happens if you think the ssat, isee or whatever private school test ds takes is too easy. you know, college standardized tests aren't particularly hard, but the best colleges in the US use them as a basis of admission.

You don't say.

My child didn't think it was any harder than the SSAT or ISEE. I think the difference is for kids who are applying to private schools in addition to the MCPS Magnet/IB programs they have had practice with the SSAT & ISEE. For those kids who are only applying to MCPS, this is their one and only time taking this type of test and may not feel as comfortable.

Many kids seem to take the SAT before the test for practice..
