How much do you tip your hairstylist?

Ok, if you get a cut, color and highlights it would be around $200 ish dollars depending on where you go. What does the average person tip? $40? I always do 20% but dont know if I am paying too much or too little..

I pay $155 for cut and color. I usually tip $30, split between my stylist ($22) and his assistant ($8) . My stylist is also the salon owner.

20% on a $50 cut. When I used to get my hair highlighted and the cost was much higher, I used to tip closer to 15%. When I take my kids to Hair Cuttery, I tip much higher than 20%, because they get paid so little.

For highlights and a cut I tip 15%. I almost always tip 20% in restaurants, though. Isn't there a guideline somewhere on how much to tip for what services? I never know if I've got it right!
