greasy hair?

Anonymous
I am at 31 weeks, and in the past week or so my hair has gotten greasy, especially on the crown of my head. I've never had oily hair (always has been dry to normal), and I haven't changed my shampoo or conditioner. I also don't use hairspray or gel or anything. I figure this must be a pregnancy thing, but I haven't heard of it before. Any ideas? I think I am going to try a clarifying shampoo. Washing repeatedly with my current shampoo (Pantene) doesn't seem to make a difference.

You may be making the problem worse with repeated shampooing. and, yes, it is probably pregnancy related. Maybe switch shampoos and just wash once a day at the very most.

I don't have this but you might be making things worse by repeatedly washing your hair. My hair dresser is always trying to convince me to wash my hair every other day - to which I say no I can't because by the 2nd day my hair is greasy. She said that the washing actually stimulates your glands to increase more oil so if you can do every other day it technically should be less oily, not more...

GL!

OP here - I normally shampoo once a day. Today I tried shampooing twice (during the same shower), but my hair at the crown was still greasy (it never got "squeaky clean"). I feel like I can't get it clean no matter what! Ugh.

I think Pantene is known for being on the greasy end to begin with, as shampoos go. Maybe switch to a different brand. I use Bumble and Bumble, and while expensive, it is stripped of any excess ingredients.

Definitely try a new shampoo or a lighter conditioner.

Bumble and Bumble's 'Sunday Shampoo' is a great clarifying shampoo and the 'Creme de Coco' is great too. Coco makes my hair feel very clean but isn't to strong for every day.

Get a shampoo specifically for greasy hair. I had this problem when I lived outside of the country for a while (I think it was the water), and it was the ONLY thing that worked. I still washed it every day.

hair and pregnancy is so weird. Some people have nicer hair, some people claim their hair grows faster/darker/fuller, some people get that linea nigra on their belly, etc.

And then there is greasy hair too. I found that T gel worked well for me plus it got rid of the Pantene residue.

This happened to me, too! I switched to a shampoo for greasy hair, and things got better (although never great). I'm sorry this has happened to you, but I will admit that I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one!

OP here - thanks for the advice everyone! I had no idea that Pantene had a rep as a greasy shampoo -- I've never had any problems with it! Up until the past week or so I've had the best "pregnancy hair" ever -- been really psyched by how full and shiny it's been. But now... Will definitely switch shampoo/conditioner ASAP!
