DD is almost 9 months old and I am on my second cycle since getting off BC (mini-pill). First period came back 4 weeks after finishing BC. I decided to temp this cycle so I would know when I ovulate but so far nothing and I am on CD19. Prior to having my baby I ovulated on CD17. I only temped for 2 cycles before becoming pregnant last time.
Could I have an anovulatory cycle this month? Or perhaps I will ovulate much later into my cycle? Not sure how pregnancy affects your cycle afterwards. Trying to not stress about it since obviously this is the first real cycle of trying but I really wish that everything would be back to normal quickly! I stopped breastfeeding my baby at 6 months but didn't get my period back until I stopped BC. |
| My guess is your body is still sorting itself out from the birth control regardless of the pregnancy. You could try seeing an acupuncturist to get things moving. Or you could wait a few more cycles and see what's going on. |
| OP here .. thanks for your reply. I was on BC prior to getting pregnant for over 10 years and when I stopped my cycle went right back to normal then I got pregnant. Granted this was like 2 years ago give or take. I am kind of surprised that my body would take a while to regulate after the mini-pill. Anyway I guess I will give it a few more cycles to see what is going on. Thanks! |
| It also could be that your prolactin levels are still returning to normal. For me, it took about five months after I stopped breastfeeding for things to return to normal. |

It's still so early - only second cycle post birth control, with a 9 month old baby, 3 months after breastfeeding. I'd really give yourself more time. I didn't go on birth control after my son was born, because I was so keen to have #2. I breastfed for 12 months, and didn't get a period until he was 15 months old. He's 19 months old now, and I just had my second cycle. My body has been totally out of whack. This is really normal, though. Give yourself another couple months.
Good luck! |
| OP, I went and saw my midwife at 11 months PP just to see what I needed to do to get pregnant again because I hadn't gotten my period yet. She advised me to stop taking the pill and see what happened. I got my period 4 weeks later, and got pregnant two weeks after that. I was still BF my first at that point, and the pregnancy was kind of a shock, to be honest. Everyone is different, and you just have to see what happens with your body. I think temping is a great step so you at least know what's going on, but you might want to go in and see your doctor/midwife just for a consult to talk it out. Good luck! |
| Your kids will be super close in age if you get pregnant now. Your body may not be ready. Prolactin levels could still be high or other hormones out of whack. Give your body some time to regulate. Unless you're pushing 40, I'd wait 4-6 more months. |

OP here ... I did ovulate this month just a few days later than I typically do (CD21 instead of CD17). In the TWW right now. 7DPO with high temps so we shall see. Trying to wait until 12DPO to test.
Kids would definitely be closer together than we originally planned if I was indeed pregnant right now but who knows how long it will take to get pregnant. It only took 2 cycles last time but obviously I am older now so it might take longer (or not). We want 3-4 kids and I am 32 so we figured we might as well go for it if I am feeling up to it. Physically I feel great ... lost all the baby weight (gained a TON) and back to running and working out 3-4 times a week. |
