How old are you guys? Madonna got it WAY worse. There were no fake articles in the NYT and Guy wasn’t speaking to the press pretending that she wasn’t faking an accent. It was a gossip rag goldmine.

Madonna can do whatever she wants. Madonna was/is iconic. Madonna changed her name her sexuality her accent is small potatoes. A grandpa baging “rich pretty girl” from Boston couldn’t even succeed on her own chops she had to co-opt a persona

I've wondered this too. I am assuming it is the celebrity that let this fly with the Catholic church (not at all surprising), but the fact that she is a WASP should have come up in pre-cana. I guess no one verified she was Catholic or looked the other way? With permission from the archdiocese, a priest will do all the sacraments ahead of time without the normal preparation. We are non celebrities and for various reasons we didn't have to do the required premarital counseling and my spouse was confirmed the night before the wedding (again with no preparation). We've been married and had both children baptised in a famous church (UNESCO world heritage site) with literally no prep for any of the sacraments. So yes it is possible. The Catholic Church in the US is really, really rigid and makes it very difficult to do this but in other places they are much more flexible. Please don't blast me, but the Church also recognizes publicity and celebrity appeal so bending the rules in certain circumstances enables them to continue to have relevance in an era of steeply declining church attendance.

Yah, this is not surprising. I haven't seen it as much in the US, but I have encountered, "married by the church!" often overseas which basically means the state won't marry you because you are already legally married, but you can marry 2, 3, 4, 5 times by a Catholic priest. A little bit of cash and intimidation and you're good to go on that front.

This is a little sloppy, but I think I agree. Madonna is a lot of things, but she is talented and an incredibly dogged, ambitious person. Hillary hasn't done a day's work in her whole life unless you count opening your cervix for daddy grandpa.
