My mom called to talk about this and that and then dropped that she and my dad are concerned about DH and me and our toddler flying to see them next week. "There. I just had to say that."
When I asked her what she wanted us to do with that she said, "Oh, nothing, we were just worried." Though I was very nice and reassuring to her I hung up the phone and was annoyed. I completely understand that they are nervous about air travel these days but keep that to yourself when you know we can't drive that far to see you, have purchased all the tickets, made all the arrangements. Why do you need to voice your worries about our safety to us when it isn't going to change anything. Or maybe they thought we'd really cancel our trip. |
"Thanks for your concern. Now, are we making Aunt Betty's famous pecan pie again this year? DH loves that!" |
I've been on 2 flights already this week and really didn't give it a second thought. I did notice a new twist in security - the random swabbing of hands this time also included my waist and my shoes. I figured that was a good thing.
Given the current targets of choice, air travel is probably safer than walking around in downtown DC because there is security screening. |
