Chances? Sex once 36-48 hours before ovulation

Anonymous
I know no one can answer this for sure, but humor me! We had sex once 36-48 hours before I ovulated. What are the chances I'll get pregnant? We know that husband has healthy sperm from prior fertility work up.

One to two days before ovulation is decent timing. But the likelihood of getting pregnant in any cycle is around 15-20% depending on your age. Best of luck!

The day before ovulation, women around 25 have about a 35% likelihood, and for a woman age 35, it's about 25%. Two days before ovulation, you're looking at 25% likelihood for a woman age 25 and 15% for a woman age 35. Three days out, it's less. I don't remember how much so, but each day away from ovulation day it reduces a good amount. (And ovulation day itself is only around 10%, which makes sense when you think about the fact that the egg itself only lasts for 12-24 hours.)

*These numbers are based on a study I read in the past, though I don't seem to remember where.

I know this is only anecdotal. But I struggled to get pregnant with #2 ... Finally got pregnant at age 35 after trying for 18 months. Decided to try for #3...the first month, we had sex twice - on day 7 and 10 and I got pregnant (at 38 years old). So....anything is possible! I almost fainted when I saw that second line!!

I had sex once, 48 hours before ovulation, and I got pregnant at 40, six weeks after I got married. Baby girl is now a healthy one-year old.

My first was 4 days before ovulation. Before is better than at or after, so I think your chances are actually good.

Loving reading these stories! Makes the two week wait at least somewhat bearable.

Who knows, but if you do, it will probably be a girl.

Not necessarily. Shettles has been disproven.

I'm the PP who tried for 18 months for #2 and not even a month for #3, and I have to tell you...when I found out I was pregnant after having sex on Day 7 and Day 10, I knew it would be a girl. I even had my standard Ovulation pain on day 14, so I know when I ovulated. And...

it was a boy! My third boy!

I have decided that DH and I just make boys. So, Shettles didn't work for me!

I also got pregnant at least 48 hours before ovulation. I was also sure it was going to be a girl. It was another boy. (Apparently, dh only knows how to make one flavor.)

+1
It has a 50% error rate which means the original theory was bunk.
