Experience changing Vyvanse dose?

Anonymous
DD has been on 40 mg Vyvanse for several years with good results. Now, at the beginning of high school, she's experiencing diffiulty with focus and attention. I know it's a new environment but I'm wondering if she needs a higher dose.

For those of you with kids on Vyvanse, how often have you ahd to change doses and under what circumstances? Did puberty make a difference? I know dosage isnt' specifically tied to weight but I'm wondering if maturing and weight/height gain can make a difference.

If Vyvanse worked less well, did you switch to a different med instead of or after upping the dose?

Thanks for any insight!

My son started on half of the lowest dose and stayed on it for a few weeks. It wasn't enough so we moved up to 20 mg and have stayed there for 2 years. I can see it may be time to up it again. He is started to act impulsively again verbally and physically almost as if it wears off after a few hours. I don't want to switch meds because it has worked so well.

Unfortunate

Vyvanse from second to sixth grade. Early in sixth (age 12.5 years), increased from 20 to 50 mg. He's been on that dose for the past year and it's fine. Had an initial adjustment period where he had headaches, which happened when he first started. Side effects were gone after a few days.

My DD is on Vyvanse for a few years now. We wouldn't change because it is the one type that works for my DD. If and when we notice it not doing the job as effectively as it did before we would make an appointment with the doctor and see what they thought. If it was decided we need to increase the dosage ( or lower it as in the case of my other DD) my DD would try it for a few days and then report back. If it worked than that would become the new dosage.

Good luck!

We upped my son from 30 to 40 mg and it works "better" for sure. You might as well try because if you don't like it, you can always go back to lower dose. That's what my doc said and I agree.

We just upped our dose as well from 30 to 40. We went to 50 and DD said she felt jittery, 40 is better.

We upped it and it caused facial tics. Now on 20mg.
