Not all do.

Reading comprehension: I wrote “most.”

This is true for the most part and certainly at ‘27 with respect to private schools.

How will we figure it out?

Most will figure it out by seeing how she distinguishes her play from the rest on Orange; you, not so much.

My mistake. When you said “you all” you meant the 21 other Orange families who undoubtedly will notice one player is better than all the rest. Looking forward to it!

Are you comparing girls who tried out for the same positions?

Playing multiple sports is where the best athletes reside. Good lacrosse players are just that, good lacrosse players who don't play any other sports. Great athletes can play and excel at multiple sports.

Agree with both statements here - definitely hard and definitely where to find the best athletes!

Not sure what the answer is but I would imagine there will be conflicts and Capital is not going to change rules of absences. So they may either choose to miss the other sport or deal with the loss of play time which may not be noticeable anyway.

Wait and see what freshman play in Woodson league. That will be a better indicator of which freshman are where.

Any feedback on whether they're going to accomodate club practices on weekends? So frustrating.

My daughter is a great athlete, but she is unfortunately not great at any of the sports she plays because she is spread too thin and can't fully commit to any one of them. In retrospect, I wish she had focused more on one of the sports no later than start of her freshman year.

This is the minority rather than the norm. Great athletes excel at every sport they play.

If it’s the norm then surely the vast majority of five star lacrosse recruits would also be five stars recruits in their other sports, right?

Excel doesn't mean limited to the top 20 or 100 players in the entire country. Playing other sports, whether great at them or not, can provide a host of other benefits as well.

Something like olympic level gymnastics is going to take 365/52/24/7, but lacrosse is littered at all levels including the top with multi-sport athletes. Most rosters, probably the vast majority.

That's not to say some that just focus on it can't be or aren't successful, but the idea that's going to be what elevates someone in this sport at least is pretty specious.

We may be saying the same thing. The best lacrosse players I know are athletic and tend to be good at other sports as well. But there is a big difference between being excellent enough to play a sport at D1 college level and being good enough to play another sport at varsity level in high school. The former requires a much bigger commitment and it is rare to find an athlete who can fully commit to multiple sports at the highest level. There just are not enough hours.

Tough to tell because we have likely multiple posters.
The concept was multi-sport athletes in high school vs specialization in one.
Then someone threw out about 5 star recruits in one sport must mean 5 star in another. Extremely limited pools. We jumped from a daughter who wasn't great at any sport to multiple 5 star and "multiple sports at the highest level". Which wasn't the point.

The data suggests for lacrosse most top-ish players play multiple sports. Meaning they can play lacrosse at a high (or very high) level while doing other sports. Whether they're incredible at them or less than.

There are all sorts of outcomes. We could talk about biggest reasons kids quit sports, their parents and burnout. Then there's the increased overuse injuries from one sport, including catastrophic ones like knees for teenage girls.

My experience is that breaks are good. Different roles on teams can be good, larger circle of teammates. Spatial and physical skills that cross over. Freshness.

I'll say again, someone can put a laser focus on a singular sport and it may turn out great, but as it relates to lacrosse, nothing suggests that's the course of action that gets it done.
