| Having a dinner party and when I asked guest if there was anything she didn't eat, she said, "pork and fishy fish." I like all fish and because I always buy fresh haven't experienced "fishy" fish. What types of fish do you think she means? Thanks. |

Trout, salmon, sea bass, tuna
Not fishy- cod, halibut |
|
ha good question. I always wondered the same thing. To me if someone tells me a fish is fishy it means it's not fresh.

Oily fish eg. Mackerel, sardines, arguably salmon.
Safe is usually white fish: tilapia, cod, halibut, etc. |
OMG. OP here. So glad I asked. Those are some of my favorite fish. Agh! |
me too... I also love mackerel and sardines... MMMMM brings back memories of all my fish dinners in Turkey and Greece. |
This! |
| And of course the most fishy of all, and my favorite, catfish. Rolled in cornmeal, sprinkled with Old Bay and fried, yum! |
Catfish is a non fishy fish- white and not a lot of oil in the fish. |
| Any fish that tastes the way a fisherman's wharf smells. |
| Baccala |
Fishiness isn't based on color. Catfish has a strong flavor. Hence the fishy factor. |
Make what you want and she can damn well eat it if she's hungry. I hate picky adults. She sounds like a pain in the ass. |
I can't possibly understand this. The point of a dinner party is to be a gracious host. You're supposed to want your guests to enjoy themselves. If you serve something accidentally that someone doesn't like, that's one thing, but if you've specifically asked what someone doesn't like, then it's rude to serve it. It's like a slap in the face. I wouldn't serve fish at all. I'd be worried that they meant "fishy" as opposed to shellfish or something. I'd probably serve chicken. |
Yup, those Mediterranean fish you love -- pretty much the fishy fish. I love them too. I don't love swordfish, though, which I find fishy. |
