Thanks to DCUM, I bought a butter bell

It sounded perfect, and it's cute, but the butter keeps falling into the water. Any tips?

I found ours a huge PITA. We switched to keeping soft butter in a snapware glass container at room temp.

You have to make sure you really pack the butter in, I think -- after a couple years of using it and occasionally having that issue -- you want to ensure that there aren't little air pockets below the butter or on the sides, because then there's less 'grip' holding the butter to the bell. I find it's easier to do if I let the butter soften in stick or tub for a bit, THEN put it in the bell.

Make sure you're using 100% real butter, not spreadable butter, which has vegetable oil, etc. in it. Also make sure it's in a cool part of the kitchen and not near your stove or other source of heat.

OP here. I took all the advice, plus switched to salted butter (not sure if that made a difference). It is now working perfectly! It's been a while since I was this pleased with an < $20 purchase.

I don't know if salted butter helps with the 'stickiness' but I have found that it keeps longer than unsalted!
