Summer Program for 6th-8th grader

I know it's early but anyone have any good experiences with a summer camp for their 7th grader? My DC felt too old and was a little bored last summer in day camp but is too young to do the academic or intern programs next summer.

Just trying to figure out some ideas that are worth the time and money for the summer.

Would they like one of the adventure camps? These seem a lot more active and aren't always based in the same spot each day. Most of the big privates seem to have this option.
