Has Yale Become a PC Joke?

As many things as Yale has going for it, I wouldn't want my kid at a school that wouldn't suspend or expel such foul-mouthed students. It does not seem like a good place for students or teachers who actually value freedom of intellectual expression.

These students should all be expelled.

Not all but the girl who shouted at the professor to "stay quiet" and then screamed "who the fuck appointed you as master" should be suspended immediately. Keep in mind that the professor's alleged sin was not to have condemned supposedly offensive Halloween costumes in strong enough language.

It's beyond ridiculous how spoiled and intolerant some of these kids are.

Gotta a love a post that supports free speech by urging the expulsion of students who exercise it!

I probably should've read what happened before posting but I personally draw the line at any costume, college patty or not, whose purpose is to denigrate especially blackface.

Nice deflection.

Most of the ivies are over-priced cesspools of leftist groupthink. Academic freedom doesn't exist there.

Send them in a mission trip to south America and let them experience green inferno.

That was my thought as well.

This is not about free speech. It is about respect. If you cannot be in an academic environment without swearing and threatening the staff, then you do not belong there.

I think you mistake liberty for license.

Do you find the behavior in the video acceptable?

Not a deflection at all. Just pointing out that the premise here is that students should be severely punished for swearing at authority figures while racist speech/expression must be protected. I can understand a categorical stance in favor of free speech, but this isn't it.

Whatever happened to respect?

Would you find Nazi Halloween costumes acceptable? Or a memo suggesting students think twice about donning Blackface for Halloween parties offensive?

Either offensiveness is or is not a justification for punishing expression. OP clearly thinks it is a justification -- OP's position is that the kids who yelled and swore at faculty should be suspended or expelled. In which case OP's position on freedom of expression is essentially no different from that of the student protesters. It's just that OP finds swearing and contempt for authority offensive while the the students find racism offensive.
