Commute North Arlington/McLean to Silver Spring

How is the commute from North Arlington or McLean to Silver Spring? Are there back road options? Would there be a big difference in terms of commuting if lives in McLean vs. Northern Arlington.

I commuted everyday via metro which was about 45 min. I drove a couple times at 6am, which took about 30min, and at 8:30am about 40 min. It was a pretty smooth ride at those times. If you are traveling the beltway, I think McLean would be a slightly shorter distance to SS.

You are generally going against traffic that way, so not too bad driving.

Driving there isn't bad. Driving home at night is a nightmare. I'd take the metro if you can.

Live in DC so don't have to cross the Potomac and don't know how bad the bridge would be, but the city route through DC isn't bad if you're going to downtown Silver Spring. You would do Chain Bridge to Arizona to Nebraska to Military then up 16th - probably 25 min for that?
