Does anyone have experience of any of the academic summer programs at this school? |
We didn't have a good experience. It's very remedial and kids with behavior issues. |
We found it worthless. Total waste of money. |
Yikes. Thank you both. |
Wow, that's not true at all. Are experience was fine, OP. I would get information from the school on the camp and ask about the specific program you're interested in and what skills you're looking to focus on. |
Having done all that, (thank you) I have come here to get first hand experience from parents who have nothing to lose by describing their experiences. This was not my first port of call. |
I think you need to find out who the teacher is going to be. My dc took the math program there several years ago and had a top notch McLean teacher as the teacher for the summer program. She learned some great strategies that helped her when she returned to MCPS. However, not all of the Summers Edge teachers are McLean teachers and not all McLean teachers are top notch (she later enrolled for a couple of years until we left the area). In McLean's defense, this was before the old head left (her name is escaping me) and I've heard the new head has made many changes so hopefully the mediocre teachers have left. Bottom line, it can be a good program with the right teacher. |
That's really helpful. Thank you. |
Bumping this thread. I have a rising 2nd grader who is struggling with math. Anyone have recent feedback on their math program for the lower division at Summer Edge? |
