The Scandanavian Secret Behind All Your Fav Songs (NPR)

On the heels of 'nothing original' being discussed in this forum... Did anyone hear this story with Tom Ashbrook?
Basically, all pops songs (ie what's being played on the radio) is produced with computer generated 'music,' is void of originality and is very profitable.
Songs don't have any originality anymore, and they don't fit the standard verse - chorus - verse - chorus - bridge - verse theme. Along these lines, songs have to have a hook every EIGHT seconds to capture the attention of the fast-dial-changing fingers on the radio tuner.

I am a very amateur musician and this rings true: I don't mind an upbeat pop tune, but all of the modern ones sound the same (Katy Perry, Taylor Swift, Shut Up and Dance, etc).

Discuss, DCUM!

I totally agree with this. It's all formulaic music designed to appeal to the masses and to make a quick dollar. To listen to decent music these days you have to pay for it - ie. satellite radio.

Max Martin has been behind most of the hits for the past 20 years. This isn't a new phenomenon.

It hasn't been a secret, either.

There was an episode on the TV show Scorpion about this. A computer program that produces songs that are guaranteed hits based on a specific formula.
