27 inch Imac good to use for t.v. also?

Can a 27" desktop Imac computer double as our television set in a small room?

Double duty- home desktop computer/television set?

I was looking into going the other way around previously. Where I was going to use our TV as a computer screen.

I think you might need a TV Tuner to be able to connect your cable TV connection to the computer. Unless you're planning to stream from the internet.

It shouldn't be a major issue I think. They said going the other way around was a bigger issue because TV monitors aren't as clear/crisp as TV monitors.

The other issue is the convenience of a remote control. People like the logitech harmony universal remote. But it's more than a $100 and I'm not sure what the benefits are. You can also just hook up a wireless mouse and keyboard to use as a remote as well.

Thanks - this is helpful. I am not on Cable - i use appleTV. I was more wondering about the size -

the resolution will be an issue going "both ways" T.V.s are low resolution, which helps viewing from a distance but not close-up, as if you were going to use it as a computer monitor.

Computer monitors are hi-res, which is good for viewing close up, but not so much for viewing from a distance, as if watching t.v. ? Hmmm

I have apple TV on my TV now - which basically mirrors your device screen and, from a distance, it works well for casual computing (surfing the web, writing a quick email) but i think for serious working at home it would not be suitable.

I wonder if a hi-def t.v. would work better as both television and home computer monitor? Anyone know?
