Nysmith?
|
My thought is if your child had actually been identified as "profoundly gifted" you would have been provided plenty of information about resources by the screener. |
+1 OP - at least give us some more information. How old is your child? In what way does s/he present as gifted? Have you tried your local school? Who identified your child as "profoundly gifted?" |
Op here- why does this info matter? Why can't people just give recommendations for schools? I don't really want to homeschool and the public school is not meeting the needs. |
Anyone who says PROFOUNDLY GIFTED with a straight face needs to be hit in the face. |
Np here. You pps are obnoxious. Gifted exists. Profoundly gifted is an official category within it. These children have special needs. Why won't DCUM accept that?
OP, I think you are out of luck, there aren't even great choices for gifted kids in private. Public is better. You could look at Nysmith or the new BASIS. I'd apply to the Davidson Institute and see if folks on that forum can have any better information. Best of luck. It is challenging. I hope you know about the Hoagies website, too. |
Perhaps look into the Davidson scholar program? |
I would say Nysmith for k-8. In US your child's needs can be met by any of the more rigorous big 3 schools - NCS/STA, Sidwell, GDS if they take the most rigorous courses. All have college level writing programs and can get to post BC mathematics. |
All the fcps high schools have this. I would think TJ would be a better choice for profoundly gifted than any of thess schools listed |
pp here. Her use off the word "profoundly" made me believe she actually had a test done, because that's the only way to make such a determination. That test would be followed up with a list of resources. Her hostility to the response tells me OP is just another DC-area Type A Mom with a precious little snowflake she thinks is gifted but is probably only a high-achiever. |
The responses are because it's highly doubtful OP actually has a profoundly gifted child. If she did, she wouldn't be casting about for resources as options would have been identified for her already by the professionals who made the determination. So, people are reacting, rightfully, to another mommy with an exaggerated sense of her child's abilities. Because this area is overrun by these types. |
OP -what's your definition of *profound gifted*? OMG - this is a great way to start off my Wednesday with a great laugh! Everyone's child is gifted in the DC area ![]() |
From a family where everyone is gifted (and some profoundly): Public school will drive your DC crazy. And private is awfully expensive. Potomac school or any big three. You still have to get to the school and traffic is awful. |
I have a profoundly gifted child in FCPS. I have read (on here) that the Haycock AAP center has the biggest peer group of gifted children. It is public school, though. |
