| Hi, I am thinking about renting a place in Sea Colony for the end of the summer. I would need a 3 bedroom, most likely. What are the benefits to staying on the beach side in the condos vs. the houses away from the beach? It would be me, dh, dd4, mom 78, and some varying family during the week, no other kids. I'd like to be near to a kiddie pool and near a playground or green area for dd4 to play and jump and run. Never been before. Thanks. |

I find the beachside to be wonderful. You don't have to pack up for the entire day to go to the beach (very important with young kids and I imagine older people). You can head back to your condo for lunch, naps, or basic rest. I also like the fact that we can put my son to bed at 8am and then enjoy "a night out" by sitting on the balcony and watching the ocean. Since you have Grandma with you, maybe you have a built in babysitter and this isn't a problem.
Sea Colony has several kiddiee pools. Edgewater House is the Center condo place on the beach- with both a regular pool and kiddie pool (and the indoor pool, and convenience store). All other buildings are near pools also - I think there are 2 other kiddie pools (there is a map in the downloadable brochure). The one downside to Edgewater is since it is the center and tall, it can get crowded. We still stay there because it has everything close and we like the layouts of the condos (we only need 2 bedrooms). There is a small tiny playground near the oceanside condos - near the tennis courts (at one far end - I don't remember which one). I'd say it was designed for toddler/preschoolers.But there is also some large areas of grass that kids play on right outside Edgewater. There is a larger playground in the center of Bethany Beach. |
Bethany is really tight parking so you might want to stay in the units closer to town-ABC order. It's more walkable. There is also a convenience store in Annapolis. |

We also like the ocean side. However, if a 4 yo is the only child, it might not be as important to be close to your apartment when you go to the beach. The other side is much cheaper and there may be more parking available. Also, our 4 year old loves riding the shuttle, and the main pool on the west side is nice, so this may work well for you.
We always rent on the ocean side in a 2 BR, Den unit with the den fit out like a third bedroom. We always stay in either Georgetown or Farragut because we like the pool right there with the baby pool and can walk to the convenience store in Edgewater easily, but all of the oceanside buildings are pretty similar so I would just look for the unit and view you like. The playground mentioned is at the north end of the property west of the Annapolis - Chesapeake buildings. And the A-C buildings are closer to town so it may be easier to walk to town from there - especially if you bring a child's bike or scooter because its still a bit far for at least my lazy kids. You can't use those on the oceanfront promenade area though so they may not get much other use. We always end up driving into the town. |
