mosquitos in the backyard

They're vicious! I don't want to use OFF or something similar as the kids are 3 and 1, but the 1 year old gets eaten alive. We practically live out there, and at dusk, the mosquitoes are flying thick. We don't have a table out there (yet), so we can't really put out a candle or something similar. Do you have any tips?

Mosquito net tent. There are also "candles" that burn repellent smoke available in most hardware stores.

Get rid of your standing water. Mosquitoes actually don't fly very far from where they hatch, so your yard has conditions that are causing breeding. They also don't need inches of water -- a poorly drained yard will suffice.

Unclog your gutters and downspouts, then do a little regrading. Maybe even bring in some sand or gravel to dry things out. You can DIY all this; it's just elbow grease. Sprinkle some diatomaceous earth over the particularly damp spots. If there's water you really can't get rid of, like a neighbor's puddle, you can buy pellets of something (I forget - google) to drop in the water and kill the larvae.

And, you don't need a table for your citronella candle.

I put in a few circulating fans. Evidently, mosquito are terrible flyers and a light breeze really discourages them.

Mosquitoes treatment

-1 Please don't do this. The treatment will kill bees and other useful pollinators and insects. Dump the standing water (or use the pellets the PP mentioned, they work great!) and get a couple of fans.

Bitch please, I spray every three weeks and swarms of beas in my yard drinking off my irrigation during the recent drought.
