Expectant and Postpartum Moms

my mind is probably playing tricks on me, but i think i have all these early signs of pregnancy. which of course could all be misinterpreted.
- my sense of smell seems heightened (my very first symptom with DC #1). i smelled a poopy diaper from 10 feet away... or it could've been just a really stinky diaper! i smelled smoke on my husband's jacket, something i normally don't notice... or it could've just been really smoky. - i've had a couple little headaches (not very common for me)... but non-pregnant people do get headaches too. - i've been extra tired lately (also an early symptom i had w DC #1)... but me just moved, i started a new job last week, and i'm running after DC #1 all the time. - and then the kicker... yesterday i threw up. though i never had a second of morning sickness with DC #1. BUT, DC #1 had a fever the last 2 days so i could've gotten a bug from her. but the home pregnancy test says no. is it all in my head? could i have all these symptoms before the pregnancy registers on the home test? just FYI, the heightened sense of smell did happen before the home preg test with DC #1, but i don't remember about the other symptoms. what do you think?? |
| I do not think that the morning sickness sets in for a while. I can't remember exactly, but maybe around 8 weeks? I'm sure everyone else is different. Maybe just buy a pack of pregnancy tests and test again in a few days. Good luck. |
| I had that happen. My first wave of nausea hit approximately 3-4 days after conception. I didn't test, but I am sure it would've come out negative at that point. So it's possible. |
Me too. I was nauseous - felt like motion sickness -- about a week after conception. |
|
I'll chime in with a yes.
Despite the fact that my dr. told me women don't experience preg symptoms until 7-8 weeks, I definitely had nausea about the time I took the test (2 weeks preg). Sure, it could be anxiety or excited related to the pregnancy, but it also could the observations of a very intuned women. I just know my body that well. |
| I found when trying to become pregnant that every little thing my body did I attributed it to the fact that maybe I was pregnant. Turns out I just never noticed those things before....it took me 6 months to get pregnant with #2. |
This was my experience as well. We got pregnant with #1 on the first try, so I kind of assumed the second would be fast as well. When we started trying for #2, I took every little sign as meaning that I must be pregnant...some of the same as you: nauseous, tired, almost threw up when changing a diaper, etc. Every time I was positive I was pregnant my period would show up. The month (about five months in) I quit worrying about it and felt normal, I missed my period. Have you missed a period yet? Of course that will be your "for sure" sign! |
huh? you have to be "in tune" with your body to recognize that you're vomiting? |
| Usually though, nausea is caused by the rise in HCG, which is what the pregnancy test is designed to detect. Who knows, though! |
|
OP here. The thing is, we're not trying to get pregnant, so I wasn't looking for symptoms. At least not at first. Now of course I'm over-analyzing everything. I talked to my dr today who said that it's the HCG that causes the symptoms and therefore would make the test positive so she thinks it's very unlikely that I am. On the other hand, I definitely had the smell thing with DC #1 before the test was positive. I jokingly accused my husband of having an afffair because I could smell a new scent on him. Turns out he had changed deoderants months before and I hadn't noticed!
Arg! I'm so impatient!! |

I skipped a couple of meals one day and felt really sick. I knew I was pregnant and didn't get a positive for two more days.
How many dpo (days post ovulation) are you? |
|
OP here. I don't know if or when I'm ovulating. I'm still breastfeeding and haven't gotten my period back. So I'm totally in the dark. I guess I'll just have to keep taking tests for another week or two.

I'm a PP who had nausea (no vomiting) 3-4 days after conception. If I recall correctly (it's been a little while), HPTs usually detect hCG levels that are around 20-25. You're technically pregnant when hCG > 5. So there's that gray area when you are pregnant but HPTs don't register it yet. I wonder if those of us who had this early on are just more "sensitive" to hCG? |
