ACT Science Prep

Anonymous
Does anyone know of a reasonably priced one-on-one solidly knowledgeable individual in DC or Maryland that can help prep for the ACT science section ONLY? I would like to get DC face to face help for 3 or 4 sessions without paying more than $500.

DC did well on each section except 'science' which brought down the score. And this from a kid who has taken honors chemistry, honors physics, and taking AP biology. It looks like the ACT science is more reading comprehension than anything else. DC has reviewed guides, YouTube ACT science, etc, but I'd like to get DC real time help.

TIA.

You can improve scores quite a bit by sitting down with your DC and going over the science section of the book with him. Have him take a practice test and go over the answers and look for a pattern to see where he makes his mistakes. This works for College Board tests too.

This is good advice but the OP has already used your options and is looking for "I'd like to get DC real time help."

The OP did not indicate that at ALL. She said her DC reviewed the books, not tha she reviewed the book with her DC. That part is crucial. IMO and IME parents around here tend to want a quick checkbook answer and not to have to actually spend time with their children helping them solve an problem or issue.

OP here. I certainly did not want my simple request to turn into a free for all!

My simple, easy request was if anyone knew anyone that might provide face to face prep in one area. Accusatory comments are baseless and unwarranted.

Let's keep this simple folks. Thanks.

08:35 here. The PP's comment was full of inuendo. Some folks can't wait for their mornings to start without itching for a wholly unnecessary argument.

You might want to just contact some of the local test facilities and see if you can make arrangements for someone who could prep in that one area. For $500 for 3 or 4 sessions, you really shouldn't have too much problem.

Hope THIS helps.

My son could use some science help too on the ACT. I googled and here is what I found. They are certified tutors and might be worth checking out.

I'll bet their rates are much, much lower than prep companies around here. Interesting that the tutors give full bios and their test scores. One tutor is an MD/PhD. Might be able to get some free medical advice too! LOL!!

OP here. I spoke with Varsity at length. After a bit more research and inquiries check out, this might work.

Thank you!

Contact Prep Matters - their tutors do a great job targeting individual sections of the test and overall test taking strategies.

I'll mention Capital Educators - they provided Math-only SAT prep for my child

Prep Matters is a whopping $185/hour for the science section.

I have degrees in physics and engineering. Should I be in the tutoring field?

Try this. You can have sessions in-person or online. Flexible. If you don't like tutor you can get a refund.
