We living in a side-by-side duplex and share a large wall with our neighbors. To our dismay, sound really travels between the two houses. Their house was flipped recently and I think that they must have not made any attempt to install any soundproofing. What can we do now? I realize we'll have to break into the walls somehow, but can any significant improvement be made? Is it worth it? |
Anyone? |
Assuming these are regular stud walls with no insulation you can have some blown in. Just need to cut small holes at the top of each stud cavity and patch after it's done. |
NP here. Any sense of the cost in something like this? |
We had soundproofing done in the house we rented. I do not know what it cost the owners, but it really helped. Essentially, they added a layer of wall and put something inbetween the old wall and new wall. It moved the wall about 2-3 inches in. Definitely helped with the sound, although not completely. |
Sorry, we just moved for this exact reason. Carpeting helps, but wasn't what we wanted. Try to talking to the neighbors, tho sadly it didn't work for us. |
We did this at our previous townhouse bedroom. We added a second wall about 15 inches from first one. In between the walls we installed acoustic insulation that hangs off metal strips designed not to transmit sounds. You can Google it. We found the acoustic materials from a warehouse in Vienna. We paid handyman $600 to build the wall & hang the insulation. That blocked all noises coming through the bedroom wall. |
