One night getaway from DC no kids - ideas within 2 hours drive?

Anonymous
Hi - I have family coming to town who are going to watch my kids for one night while DH and I go away. We would leave before noon Saturday and need to be back Sunday afternoon. Ideas on location/hotels within 2 hours that are $200 or so? Don't want to get into $400 per night hotels. I was thinking of doing Falling Water in Pennsylvania but not sure I want to drive 4 hours each way in 36 hours or so. Other interesting ideas closer to DC? Thanks.

What do you want to do? We went to chestertown on the eastern shore and stayed at a cute B and B (they had fireplaces in every room and a lovely view of the bay) and just enjoyed being together and walking around arm in arm and stopping into stores and for coffee.

Any of the b&b's or independent boutique inns in Rappahannock or Culpeper counties would work for you. Awesome views and dining, plus all the wine you can taste if you're into that.

The Bartlett Pear Inn in Easton, Md. Small, wonderful food, and gracious owners.

Baltimore or Philadelphia - go to museums and not-kid-friendly restaurants

+1 We really loved our weekend there; great food.

Slightly further about 2.5 hours is Bedford Springs Resort.

DH and I manage a kid-free getaway for about the same amount of time (less than a full weekend) about once a year. Our go-to place has become Winchester/Harper's Ferry area--but we usually plan a long hike so that's a big part of why. But that area is scenic, low-key, and if we want to catch a movie or something we can do that too.

Thanks, everyone! Really appreciate the suggestions and keep 'em coming if there are new ones. I definitely like the looks of the Bartlett Pear in Easton.

Yes, this is tricky about many places. Inns tend to be better about this than bed and breakfasts.

Hyatt Chesapeake is supposed to be nice although there may be kids there because it has an indoor pool
