Does anyone have suggestions for great female tattoo artists in the DMV? I'm a mom of three and looking to get my first tattoo. Looking for someone who is great at that they do and is personable. I would also really appreciate any advice regarding what to look out for or how to choose a tattoo artist? Thanks |
Gross and disgusting. You will regret it later. |
why a female? are you looking to get it in a very private part of your body?
I had mine done at Jinx Proof in Georgetown on the recommendation that they were professional and clean. They were, though a bit more expensive. You can ask to look at the pics of the artist's work; most good ones can also take a pic you bring in and make it into a tattoo. One piece of advice is that if you ever think you might want it removed, stick with black ink. Black ink comes off in fewer removal treatments. I have a bunch of friends who go to Rick's Tattoo in Arlington, but not sure who they use there. |
Wow, OP. Two whole minutes before a hater showed up to say something that was not responsive to the original post! I would say that's some kind of record but I doubt it is.
I have multiple large tattoos, mostly in places that are covered by clothing 80% of the time. I got them all when I was younger, pre-kids, and I do not regret any of them. I would say that the most important things when choosing where to get tattooed are cleanliness of the shop and work the specific artist has done. You can generally tell if a place is clean just by looking around, but you can also ask. Most places won't be offended. As for the artist's work, it really depends on what you're getting. If you're flipping through a portfolio and see something you like that they've done, it's worth asking if it's an original creation, how much input they got from the client about it, etc. If you have something specific in mind and have a sketch, a good artist can make suggestions about how to best adapt it for tattoos and can draw you up a new design based on what you show them. If you're just using something pretty stock, it's still worth discussing the design. If you have any other specific questions, I'm happy to try to answer. |
Don't do it!!! |
Your "first" tattoo? How many tattoos are you planning to get in your middle age? |
Two of my co-workers got amazing tattoos from Liaa http://www.cirquedurouge.com/#!artists/c1x9v
She is really hard to get into but worth the wait! |
As many as it takes to scare away the father of my kids and any other potential male in my life. |
Fatty's in Dupont is the real deal. Clean, clean, clean, and utterly professional. I've had work done in NYC and SF. This is where you want to go in DC. If you choose to go elsewhere, you'll have to worry about everything from privacy to cleanliness, also quality of line and the ink. Just go to Fatty's so you don't even have to ask. They'll walk you through it all. I went somewhere else just to have my nose piercing re-opened and was shocked by the lack of professionalism. People were placed together without regard for what they were having done. A woman had to stand, with her trousers pulled down on one side, while an "artist" addressed her design. I had to specifically request a needle that had been through the autoclave. Huh? |
Heee! I like you!! |
OP here. Wow, I never anticipated people being so resentful of other people getting tattoos. Why post a comment that is irrelevant to the OPs original question or concern. If I had qualms about getting a tattoo, I would have asked others to weigh in on it. So go away haters.
For those who posted advice and suggestions, thanks. I will look up the one in Arlington and the one in Georgetown. I had come across Cirque du Rouge and Fatty's in my research. Will probably go check them out. For what its worth, I'm looking to get something small and minimalist done in what I feel is a private area. Plus, there seems to be so many more male tattoo artists out there, so I'd like to go a woman. Also, I'm in my late 20s. I really do hope that isnt "middle age" these days. |
Late 20s with 3 kids and looking to tat yourself up? I sure hope you're independently wealthy ... |
What an asinine response. You don't ask someone who is buying their first house, "how many houses are you planning on buying?" It could be her first and last tattoo, she is just stating she that she hasn't had one before...my 2 cents |
OP asked for thoughts. She is getting them. I'm in the "don't do it" camp. I thought half the thrill of tarting your skin up was knowing that half of us think they look filthy and disgusting. |
LMAO at "tarting" up your skin with one tattoo. Drama queens. |
