oven hoods

was replacing my cabinets from ikea. decided t put a hood over the range rather than a microwave/cabinet. was just going to buy a hood at ikea as they have several. just occurred to me that it may not match the range. do people by a good that matches the range. i have an old GE range that i hasn't planned to replace....

I would think it should match the range color. I have a stainless range with a black stove and I bought a stainless exhaust hood to match it. I think they usually come in stainless or white but you can probably find a black hood as well.

Why not just do a microwave-hood combo? I'm asking because I'm thinking about a hood only but I'm not sure it would be better suction than a microwave. Also I don't have much counter space.

But to your question pick on that's color fits with the rest of the kitchen and make sure there's room somewhere else for a microwave.

-Thanks

I'm assuming the hood is stainless steel and your range is not? I think it would be fine.

Can you cover the range with cabinetry or wood, e.g.,:

Can you get the Ikea cabinets priced to be faux doors and cover the hood?

OP: I meant would a stainless one from IKEA match my GE range or would the style/tone of stainless be off?

Getting a hood and not a microwave as I just don't think I need a giant microwave. Going to put on a shelf rather than the counter.

Microwave/hood combos make for terrible hoods, as the suction is not nearly strong enough.

If they're both stainless, they probably won't be matchy-match, but I think that will be fine. Not mismatched in a jarring way; they'll coordinate.

I agree with you ventilation with microwaves don't cut it. You're better off with a hood.

I would not recommend the microwave/hood option they work fine as a microwave, they are awful as a hood. Its better to have a hood and have it work with your kitchen style and color.
