Recommendations for a Doula for Sibley Hospital

I'm due in 10 days and I now think I need a Doula at the birth (should have planned sooner!).
Does anyone have any recommendations?

Thanks!

I'm still trying to pick my own doula, but look at dona.org. You can search DC, MD, VA. Phone numbers and emails are listed. Hopefully, you can find someone who is available and with whom you are compatible. Good luck!

Actually, since you're on such a short time frame, I would contact the head of the regional DONA organization (I don't recall her name, but it should be on the website), explain your situation, and ask her to post a message on their internal listserve that you are looking for someone ASAP. Most doulas will be booked, and you don't want to waste your time researching people only to find out that they aren't available. (She did this for me because I had a late August due date and I had a hard time finding someone because most doulas don't schedule clients then due to summer vacations. She just told anyone who was free and interested to contact me directly.)

Hi there, I just saw your note in response to a woman looking for a doula back in January. I am currently in the process of becoming a certified doula and am hoping to attend births in the DC area, especially at Sibley. If you are still looking for a doula who you connect with, please let me know and we can meet one another! Either way, I wish you a wonderful birth experience.

Brenda Lane is the DONA rep for DC/MD/VA. You can also ask any doula you speak with to post on your behalf on the very well-trafficked DC-area doula Yahoo group. We're a small community and are constantly referring to one another when we're unavailable for a woman's due date. When someone posts on your behalf, you should only be contacted by available doulas that meet your criteria. Hope that helps!
