Nice, liberal, family-friendly church in CC/Bethesda?

We're church shopping. Used to belong to the Foundry UMC in Dupont but it's too much of an ordeal lugging 2.y.o and 7 m.o. down to Dupont every Sunday. We're looking for an ecumenical, liberal community with whom to share faith, teach our kids about spirituality (with a nice nursery now), and that's not too far from our house in CC. Tenleytown/CC DC area is ok too. Although we're not gay, gay-bashing churches are not ok.

BTW, I went to River Road UU a few years ago, and it was a little TOO ecumenical for me. I believe in many paths to God, but actually DO believe in God, which seemed to be at question in the UU church.

We are a small-ish congregation (80 or so members, but growing), but with a lot of young kids (at least five kids under 3). There is a pre-school in the building, so it has a very nice nursery with play area and crib room. We love it!

I know a lot of happy families with children at Chevy Chase Presbyterian Church. They're involved in a variety of ways (youth groups, choir, Sunday School, holiday events) and the kids seem to form a community.

I second the Chevy Chase Presbyterian Church recommendation. Lots of young families at the 9:30 service and very family friendly all around (great preschool, sunday school, family programs).

OP, you're wish list describes what can be found at the Chevy Chase United Methodist Church in Chevy Chase (on Conn. Avenue). The early (9:30 am), come as you are, service that is. The second service is more formal, and is almost completely devoid of parents/kids. Anyway, the entire church has something for everyone. Great community. Lovely families. Renewed emphasis on the kids programs. Hope to see you there.

Cedar Lane UU Church in Bethesda--if you want to try another UU church (since every one is different): http://www.cedarlane.org/ Many families and great religious education program.

Alternately, for a more clearly Christian experience, try the United Church of Christ. We found the families at Westmoreland Congregation United Church of Christ in Bethesda (http://www.westmorelanducc.org/) to be very welcoming.
