Animal Fur Rugs?

I want to get a cowhide rug for the basement. Is that too gaudy? I don't know how I feel about it coming from an animal, but I can't find any good quality faux hide rugs online. Yay, nay?

I am partial to sheepskin myself, so can't criticize your cowhide, although I don't like it.

I like the look of the rugs in magazines, but in person they kind of turn me off. I'm not opposed to them, I eat beef and sit on leather chairs. I'd do a web search, I think some pretty typical catalog furniture companies offer them.
