Backsplash install cost

Anonymous
Kitchen is 90 sq ft total with butler's pantry included. We would need to demo the current backsplash and then the new backsplash (glass). What price should I be thinking and i would want to hire someone who does this everyday.

After I had my kitchen redone last year I had a hard time finding someone to come in and do my backsplash. The contractors I used were good but they didn't do tile. I had a couple of people come in and measure the backsplash area and then they never got back to me for the estimate and wouldn't return calls. I paid Lowe's $35 to have someone come out and give me an estimate but he was kind of flaky and I wasn't convinced he'd do a good job so I didn't call him back. After having the purchased tile sitting in my living room for 10 months I finally called Mr. Handyman (of central Maryland) and they sent a tile guy over to do the job. He did a really nice job (which has been my experience with Mr. Handyman) but the work does not come cheap. $158 for the first hour and $108 for each hour after that. In all I spent $1100 to install a backsplash in a 10'x10' kitchen. He said it took longer than usual because I had picked out mosaic tile (on mesh) which takes longer to cut and configure around outlets and switches. He said it would have taken less time if it was just plain square tile. Anyway, it looks great and I'm glad that tile is out of the living room.

That cost is for labor only. The cost of materials varies widely but there is plenty of nice stuff at Home Depot and Lowe's.
