bedroom
dresser and a bookshelf are dark wood (but not a set) would like to get a bedframe (platform so no headboard) that only come in pine finish |
As long as the colors are individually nice, sure |
I used to be up tight about that, but not any more. I agree that if they're nice pieces, it will work. |
Mixing woods is very popular right now. I think variety is nice than matchy matchy. You might want to add one other pine accent piece to bring it all together and make it look more deliberate. |
That won't be very noticeable. (If for some reason it looks terrible, get a bed skirt or longer bed cover.) |
I think it's most important that the furniture styles/lines complement each other. i.e., don't put a modern pine platform bed into a room with traditional cherry furniture. Assuming you're good there, I think it's fine to mix wood tones. |
yes, matchy matchy is something you should see only in catalogs and stores. |
Yes, mixing is ok. |
for a second i thought i posted this in my sleep as i have a simi lar question. for me it is a dining room with oak and cherry pieces. i want to add a piece for storage. it is advertised as a "linen" cabinet but under the reviews several people have recommended it for storage in a dining room or bedroom. we will put it in a corner next to the kitchen. it only comes in white or "tobacco" and i am leaning towards the white: i think it would seem more unobtrusive that way. what do you think? (op i can start new thread if u want) |
Yes mixing woods breaks it up - I dislike the "all Oak, all the time" look. In my colonial i have extensive wood floors, of course, PLUS all the trim is wood. So I added a blonde hutch and it goes, but it breaks it up. When we get a table, I think i'll go darker.
Yes on the white - either white or dark would go but white in the corner next to the kitchen is probably best. |
On Modern Family, the Dunphy's have a couple of larger cabinets in white that mix with their other things and I always think how nice they look when I watch the show. |
