Roof deck on DC row house?

Anonymous
Has anyone added a roof deck on their DC row house? We are interested in doing this and starting to investigate.

My questions:
Did you use an architect for the design? Or a design/build firm or some other method?

Ballpark on costs? I am thinking $25K all in but don't know if I'm close. (I know it will depend on materials, etc., just looking for ideas.)

What was permitting process like?

What were your non-negotiables on the design--shade, electricity, built in furniture, kitchen, etc?

Thanks for any help--I am not finding a lot of info out there on roof decks for row houses!

OP here again--we already have a sliding glass door that leads to the roof so that won't be part of the expense/design. Thanks!

If you live in a designated historic area, you may have to double check that it's allowed or redesign the look so that people can't see the deck as part of the front facade from street level.

You may possibly also need ANC in addition to zoning board approval, depending upon how big your deck plans are.
