We are going to be gone long enough that I don't think it makes sense to park there, and we are not taking a car seat with us to the airport because we won't need it where we're going. I am having family drop us off (they'll keep the car seat), but they won't be available to pick us up. Will the regular "Uber X" be large enough to accommodate two adults and one child/car seat plus luggage (one large suitcase, one small suitcase, umbrella stroller, and 3-ish carryons)? Or will I have to book the Uber XL/SUV or Black? I've only ever traveled to and from Reagan, and always had our car seat. We always use the Uber XL. We live close to Reagan, so it's always been very inexpensive. Uber X is still a deal compared to parking for that long, but XL is not.
Also, any good or bad experiences using the installed car seats in Uber? The car seats they show in the promo are definitely different from anything else I've ever seen. |
| anyone? |
| We're heading out of town in November, DD is 3.5 and we're just going to park the car. Not worth the risk of wondering if the seat is expired nor if we'll have trouble finding an Uber (without having to wait a long time). |
| I would park. |
| Why not just Washington flyer they will give u an suv, it's like $70 to Arlington I think. |

We used them when my parents watched our daughter. We dropped the three of them off at a store and Uber family took them from the store to the hotel where my parents stayed - from Chevy Chase to Dupont Circle. Trip was early morning on a Sat. in August.
It worked well - although a much different trip than your potential jaunt. I wouldn't worry about the car seat being expired. Driver had a prius wagon; was on scene within 5 mins of our request. |
| I wouldnt worry at all about the space, ability to get a car, or carseat safety in this case. |

Uber just started offering these last year and claim all the car seats they have (all are one type of seat, the IMMI GO?) expire in 6 years and drivers are trained ("by the Car Seat Lady") to install them correctly.
https://newsroom.uber.com/2014/05/uberfamily-faqs/ Granted, it's all hearsay until I actually see it. I'd prefer not to park because this leg of the trip I'm on my own with the 3 YO and will have to manage our luggage, him, and the stroller onto the shuttle and into the airport, adding an extra step and additional time. Granted, I'll have to do it on the other end, too, but whatever headaches I can minimize, I'd like to! I also have fond memories of every time I leave the car at the airport for more than a week, the battery is dead when I get back. At least it won't be dead in the snow like a prior trip! I do wonder if there are fewer cars available that have the Uber Family option, which was why I was wondering about personal experiences from Dulles. Washington Flyer isn't a great option for us based on where we live (I don't use cabs without car seats, and we don't live near a Metro station). |

We've used Uber with the car seat successfully for multiple airport trips - the seats look brand new (I don't think they get that much use) and are very easy to use and adjust.
As for whether you need an X or and XL, it just depends on how much luggage you'll have. Assume that an Uber X is a Toyota Camry or some other standard sedan -- will that fit all of you and your luggage? If it's a close call you may just want to up the ante to an XL. |
| Used it for both Reagan and Dulles -- worked well, and not much trouble to get one (maybe a few minutes more than if we hadn't needed the car seat). |
