That list is not at all surprising - Bowie has several of the best schools in PG. Hyattsville is an attractive area to live in but the best nearby public is University Park. They probably used data from Zillow, and perhaps others, in which people can define their search to be within certain school zones.

Surprised Robert Goddard (now Dora Kennedy) French Immersion didn't make this list

+1 - the only thing I can think is that it is easier to get into John Hanson (now Maya Angelou). We were WAY down on the list for K this year, and made it in nearly two months before school started. I don't think they completely filled all the slots (maybe 3-4 left).

I don't know how up to date the school ranking site is. I looked up my (MCPS) school and both the demographic and Title 1 information were out of date by at least 5 years.

I am surprised Glenn Dale is so high on this list- just a few years ago when we bought our house their Greatschools rating was a 3- I am glad they turned things around!

University Park Elementary is not in Hyattsville. It is in University Park.

are you sure? Glen Dale Elementary has always had good test scores.

List is not totally accurate. Charter schools and immersion programs are left off. Also how is Glenarden Woods no. 8 when it has the 2nd highest test scores in the entire state of Maryland in 2014.

Yup, I am 100% sure.

I think this is accurate. Exact reason we bought in Bowie. Glenn Dale Elementary pulls from a pretty big part of what is Bowie as well.

+1 on the surprise at Glenn Dale's high ranking on this list. No, test scores were definitely not always high there. Things appear to have really improved over the past few years, which is good news. This list may be based on test scores pre-common core.

The writer probably just used test scores and didn't realize that both Heather Hills and Glenarden Woods require test in and lottery applications too.

You can just pull up the MDState report card for 2014 and the scores are there. Looks accurate..some schools are missing though. 2015 scores have yet to be released for the state.
