Best way to fix scratches in wood floor?

Anonymous
We bought a house that has Brazilian cherry hardwood floors. The previous owner had strategically placed rugs which covered up lots of scratches (not super deep, but lots of them). The wood is apparently soft...

Without having to redo, what is the best way to make my floor look nice?

Magic products or refinisher?

Take a walnut or pecan, break in half and rub gently. It should help with some of the lighter scratches, but definitely won't do much for the deeper ones.

Is this engineered hardwood or full thickness hardwood? You can also call a company to come and refinish the floors.

We just put in new hardwood oak last month in our new house, and between moving in and a 3 year old busy boy, the floors are already scratched to shit. It's not the softness of the wood - it's the clear coat, which just isn't that hard.

Best tip is to buy the minwax marker in the color of your floors - like this type: http://www.minwax.com/wood-products/maintenance-repair/minwax-wood-finish-stain-marker

You just go around and draw in all the scratches and then wipe it off with a paper towel. And keep the floors as dust-free as possible. The combo of those two, and the scratches will mostly disappear from the naked eye unless you're looking close.

On the recommendation of a friend, I'm about to try Rejuvenate on my floors. She swears that it filled in very small lines so they were less noticeable. I think you can get it at Home Depot.

Try Orange-Glo. When I was selling, it made my floors shine like new and covered the scratches for a month.
