| My son is in 8th grade at hardy. We can find the money for private, but we would prefer public. He is a A and B student, and not sure how he will do at wilson. Any thoughts? |
| It seems you're not very familiar with the level of competitiveness for GDS/Sodwell/Maret. An A/B student has a minimal chance of being admitted. |

What a relief that "Hardy Boy" doesn't mean a kid who solves mysteries with his brother after school!
Don't have a lot of advice re: Wilson, except to say that it's not the only public option, with charters, Walls, etc. |
| OP here. I understand that it is hard to be admitted, but if my son was admitted he is pretty competitive. At wilson he would be in honors but I am worried about him getting "lost in the crowd" |
| Also considering St.Johns |
| He'll do fine. All the private schools have a range of abilities. Has your son taken the SSAT, IEE and/or an IQ score from WISC? Apply and worry about it after he gets accepted. |
Ok, but a couple of the more competitive high schools don't actually admit "a range of abilities" in the entering 9th grade class. The high schoolers on one end of that "range" at these 3 schools are always lifers that stayed. |
GDS aims for a diverse set of abilities. |
The kid gets As/Bs. If he scores high on the standardized testing and interviews well, he's in the ball park. Apply OP. |
Ha, ha. I thought "hardy boy" was going to be a slightly husky/chubby kid, but maybe still athletic. |
Oh just stop. OP we were in your shoes last year coming out of Deal with an A/B student who did well not great on entrance tests but is a great kid. He was admitted it every private he applied including 2 out of the three you losted. He ended up at SJC for a variety of reasons including environment and price. He is loving high school. |
| Does anybody know how the academics at St. Johns compare with wilson or the other private schools? |
+1 |
Sports, URM. ? Maybe this applies to op. |
