Second Careers?

Has anyone started out in one field and then moved to another? What was your original field? What did you move to? How did you do it, and why did you make the change?

yes - moved from law to journalism.

it was a slow transition. i built up a freelance writing career as i was still lawyering, just bit by bit, story by story. and then freelanced full time for a couple of years. and then went on staff at a publication.

Social worker to lawyer. Had to go back to school for a few years. Did it because I just felt like it. No other reason.

I was just coming here to post the same question. Considering a new career, but unsure how to go about it without starting at the bottom (it's a very "work your way up" culture). I'm curious to here how others have switched careers!

When you consider how long you have to work, sometimes working up from the bottom isn't bad.
