Travel Discussion
Hi there, looking to travel to Europe (specifically Venice this time) and am thinking of getting the City Mini stroller. I'll have a 4 month old. Has anyone traveled with this stroller, and if so, how did you like it?

Love my City Mini. I have twin babies. We travelled to Frankfurt, LA, NY, and Chicago in the City Mini... It is light weight, sturdy, and you can order a city mini bag for easy air transport. I love it. I bought it when they were 2 months old. We used it the first time when they were 4 months old in LA. Two months later, Frankfurt etc. They are now almost 2, and the mini is working well.
Good luck! |
Another thing (pp here). You can open it with ONE hand (a must for twin moms). You can steer it with ONE hand. I love it!
PP here again (sorry, I just thought of something else). I've been to venice 2x and from what I recall there are a few cobble stone streets. Just an fyi, any stroller will be bumpy. In frankfurt, I used a bjorn when the trail was a bit rough. Hope that helps.
OP here, thanks for the advice about venice. I'll have a real little one (4 mos)....do you think that with spouse, we would just carry the whole time (given all of the bridges with steps and the hard to get around streets), or is a stroller really a must? How were restaurants etc. there will little ones? Were they nice about it, or was it weird?

I have the City Mini and it's fabulous. It's very easy to travel with. The guys at the door of the plane are always amazed at how easy it is to close.
As far as Venice goes, though, I would recommend just getting a really comfortable carrier like a Baby Bjorn or something. There are lots of steps, bridges, and narrow pathways, so it would be a nightmare to have to lug it around. You'd spend most of your time getting your baby into and out of the stroller. At that age they are really portable and if your baby is like mine, he/she will love to be close to you and see things from up higher. |
I also love my City Mini and would likely carry a 4-month old around in a carrier, but would also take a stroller. Depending on how long you will be out, you will need extra baby supplies and you might not want to carry a baby and the diaper bag as well. Also, if you go to eat, its nice to be able to put the baby down in the stroller every now and then.
Went to Australia with a 4 month old and City Mini and loved it. We also took a Bjorn, and definitely used both.
I really do not recommend a stroller for Venice. In Venice, there are stairs everywhere to go up and down the bridges, it will really be a pain for you to have to carry the stroller around. A baby carrier sounds like a much better option for Venice.
OP here - yeah, I've been to Venice, and that's why I was really wondering (besides just the general travel ease of the City Mini). The baby will be small, but it was really more the diapers etc. that I was also thinking about, plus meals and sleeping and stuff where the little one might do better lying down. But I've never had a kid before, so any advice is welcome for general baby travel strategy and specific to Venice. It'd be nice to not have to constantly go back to the hotel since the whole city is basically a foot travel thing.
OP - by meals, I mean ours, not his. I'm hoping to be breastfeeding at the time.
I took the city mini to Paris and it worked well since it leans all the way back for naps. HOWEVER, I found it heavy/bulky to carry around especially up and down stairs of the metro. If I did it again I would bring something much lighter like a maclaren.
