Where would you choose to live and why? |
Minneapolis - Prince! |
Minneapolis! |
I spent a lot of time in Milwaukee in the late 90s - I thought it was very small town. Nice if you are from there and all of your extended family is there.
When I visited Minneapolis St. Paul it felt edgier (in a good way). My observation was Minneapolis was more open to people moving there from all over the world. |
minneapolis/st Paul |
Neither - both are too cold for me.
Wisconsin - really good beer and cheese curds Minnesota - Mall of America and a better job market (for my field at least) |
Most of DH's family lives in Minneapolis. They all love it though winters can be rough. |
If higher ed is a consideration, then Milwaukee (UW-Madison), but otherwise, Minneapolis. |
UW & Minnesota have reciprocity, btw |
Minneapolis, no debate. Much nicer, safer, better schools, more interesting architecture, more cosmopolitan, better job opportunities (Target, Cargill, 3M, IT & healthcare sectors are BOOMING), and better flight connections to elsewhere. |
Milwaukee has nothing to do with UW-Madison. There is a UW-Milwaukee (part of the UW system). You cannot commute between the two cities on a daily basis. Well, I suppose you could, but you'd never get to work (or home from work) in the winter. - Wisconsinite |
I'd only pick Milwaukee if that's where your job is located. Or if you really like Chicago (pretty easy to visit regularly). Otherwise, the Twin Cities. More opportunity. |
I think PP was referring to UW Madison being in-state if you live in Milwaukee. Another poster mentioned that Minnesota does have reciprocity with Wisconsin, but you still pay a bit more on the MN side. I went to U of M Twin Cities and hubby went to UW Madison. We would move to either city in a heartbeat, and likely will in next few years. I lived in Minneapolis for 7 years, and loved it, but the Milwaukee close in suburbs like Shorewood and Wauwatosa are also lovely. Property taxes are very high, but housing costs are so affordable. Milwaukee has also gotten a much better restaurant scene as of late, and if you like German beer halls, they've got you covered. Minneapolis is the theater town and a bit more upscale. |
I meant like if OP had kids that might be going to college some day. UW-Madison as you must know, is the best option within 600 miles. |
I would move back to the Twin Cities in a heartbeat. |
