Is just being around hookah smoke dangerous?

DS has been hanging out with some friends who smoke hookah. He was tagged in some pictures but was not actually smoking in them and said he doesn't. The other boys are good kids but come from a a country where this is very common. Is the smoke dangerous?

Doubt it.

It's just like secondhand smoke, only they are smoking it or around it for hours.about 10x as much exposure as smoking one cigarette.

Hookah is very common now. We urge our DS to limit his use and exposure to moderate levels. A lot of his friends are Middle Eastern.

Hookah is not safe. Smoke still has particulates; hence the name smoke.

I would rather my DS hang out with friends who smoke hookah than drink. Pick your battles.
