What dose did you take and for how long?
Thanks in advance! |
I refused the prescription. I haven't heard good things about it. |
| DH has been on for 7 years now for a chronic illness. No issues so far. |
| Generally I do a tapering dose for 5-7 days, usually starting at 24-30 mg on day 1. |
| Thanks 11:29. Do you get side effects from the prednisone? |
| Not at that dose. At higher doses, I can feel crappy, but I usually don't notice anything at this level. And it's only 5 days. |
| OP here. Thank you so much! I think I need the prednisone. |
| It's really not as bad as some people say! I've probably taken it 8 times in 6 years. I hope you feel better! |
| The taper dose isn't going to give you the side effects that long-term high doses will, and they will make you feel much better quickly. |

OP again. DCUM can be so helpful. I feel like I can't breathe out of my nose and it is making me feel like I can't breathe in general.
I will follow-up with my GP and start the prednisone. What causes the problem in the first place if it isn't an infection? |
It could be a lot of things. Allergies are a common culprit. Or sometimes you get an infection and the inflammation/congestion just is very slow to clear, even after the infection is gone. If you continue to have issues, I recommend seeing an ENT. |
| OP here. I tried Afrin yesterday and it seemed to help quite a bit (knock on wood) but it says you should't use it for more than three days at a time. Anyone know why you can't use it for longer than three days? |

I took it for inflammation in one of my ears. I did the tapering dose and it made me incredibly hungry like the doctor said it might. I haven't been that hungry since I was pregnant. It lasted from the 4th day of the meds until a week or so after I was done taking them. I gained a few lbs. |
| OP here. OMG, 9:07. I'm done with Afrin after one-time use. Thank you for sharing that link. |
