So I bought a bed from Craigslist...

Anonymous
A broken bed was sold to me. I didn't see it was broken because it was stacked behind other pieces. I found it out while assembling. The person who sold is not poor by any means. I hope he is $250.00 richer. I needed a sturdy bed immediately for my child. How can someone sell a broken bed while knowing a child will be sleeping on it?

Did you notify the seller? Perhaps he didn't realize.

Why would you spend that kind of money on a used bed?

Ikea - http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/20180566/

Paint, bed board to support the mattress (at Ikea), the plastic bins to go under the bed (if you want), mattress (Ikea, Costco, BJ's all have them for $100-150), and bedding.

Or, if you want to spend more, plenty of places.

Op here. My kids broke last ikea bed we had. We just moved and a little short on money. So this bed was supposed to be temporary until I buy a new bedroom set.

It was a wooden bed, that's why I paid $250.00.

Yes I did but didn't reply.

The Ikea one I posted is all wood. We put extra wood under the mattress and added more wood to the headboard. We have two and have had them for 5 years and no issues. I don't get how a kid breaks a bed in less allowed to jump or do other stuff. Ours is $50. If it broke, you can replace it 5 times for the cost of the used one. Or, teach your kids to be more careful.

I had the same one previously. I don't know what exactly caused it to brake. Maybe moving, maybe kids jumping but I had it for 4 years. I went to ikea to buy the same one but my husband was adamant that he would not buy from ikea. He likes one from Belfort for $500.00+. So we both agreed on the Craigslist one. It's my mistake. I should've brought from ikea or similar. Thanks everyone.

I have bought a lot of antiques from craigslist and estate sales and you have to be VERY meticulous in inspecting items and assertive as well. If something is iffy or even the slightest red flag you immediately walk away. It's not like it's the last used thing on earth. Don't expect the seller to entertain giving you money back or anything like that, no matter what happened. Expensive lesson learned.

Can you rate sellers on Craigslist like they do on Ebay? I would try contacting her again, then see if there's some re-course through the site.

It may have been an oversight but unfortunately many people are out for what they can get even if they have a lot already.

Op here. No you can't rate on Craigslist. I wish the Craigslist seller (sold a broken bed) best of luck.

Sorry, OP. Very disheartening he did that. You might look daily for 7-10 days on the for free category on CL. I've seen a lot of kids beds fee for pick up over the years.

Op that sucks, I'm so sorry! Can you report the seller to Craigslist? If the seller has a history of ripping people off, maybe craigslist will be alerted to it and block the person? I don't know, because I haven't bought much from Craigslist, but I sold and gave away lots of stuff on there when I moved. I hope the person makes it right for you.

My friend bought something that turned out to be broken from Craiglist (it was disassembled and when she started to put it together, she found it was broken). She drove back to the guy's house and piled the pieces on his porch and demanded a refund. And got it. She is a ballsy piece of work though.

Can you fix it with duct tape? Duct tape fixes almost anything.

How is it broken?
