Today is the halfway mark for first quarter. Theoretically, your DC has completed half of the work for the quarter. Do you take interim grade reports seriously? Are they even still relevant with Edline in the picture?
Personally, I like the idea of them. Especially the comments. |
The slightest comment from a teacher throughout the year is greatly appreciated by myself as communication is hard to come by and both DH and I cannot be at the school that often. So yes, its hard to react or change if you don't realize there is an issue. |

Why not? |

Our elementary school didn't do interim grade reports last year or the years before. Can they opt out? |
|
I've never heard of interim reports at MCPS elementary schools. Does the school actually send home a piece of paper with interim grades on it or is there some online system where you can see them?
Thanks. |
| I have asked my DS's teacher and she stated that the only kids to receive interim reports are the ones in danger of getting an N or below reading level. This is for 1st grade though. |
I always get interim reports for all of my kids regardless of how well or poorly they are doing. IME it isn't only for kids who are in danger of a poor grade. |
|
My DD's interim report was mostly P's with a few I's. I found it helpful and reassuring. It showed me where we had to pick up a bit (spelling) which then improved thereafter.
How can they ever NOT be helpful? |
In MS and HS, with access to edline, they don't matter, as you can track grades all the time. Plus, grades change from week to week - sometimes from day to day. So what's reflected in the grades once reports come home isn't always accurate. |
| Comments? What comments? Have never seen them in the seven years I have had kids in MCPS. Would love to get actual comments from th teachers. |
In secondary schools, there are some required comments: possibility of failure (Y or N), C in Honors (Y or N), and the two work-study habits (C, O, S, R). If your DC has a C or below and his/her teachers aren't filling those 4 comments in on the interims, report them to their department heads and grade level admin. --MCPS teacher |
| Is your a school still sending paper interims or just the email via Edline? |
