Not installing shelves in a basement shower - a mistake?

Anonymous
I am having a tile guy rebuild a basement shower that rarely gets used (long story why I am rebuilding it). The shower is used no more than 10 times a year. The tile guy says that, for a little extra, he can fabricate and install a couple of shelves using the same tile. I am disinclined to do it to minimize cost. I am planning to sell the house in a couple of years -- $900k+, hot area, where basement shower will not be a deal breaker, let alone a shower shelf.

Is it a mistake not to install the shelves? I guess I am overthinking this...

Instead of having him build shelves I'd get something that's already made--soap dish and two shelves.

Thanks. The problem is that the stuff I find locally (usually white ceramic soap dish and the like _ won't match the tile.

Where are you supposed to put the shampoo? Leaving it in the floor is nasty. If you're planning to sell, put something in.

I was planning to use one of those things that you hang on the shower head spout. BTW, this is the third full bathroom in the house -- the upstairs bathrooms are great.

Bathrooms and kitchens sell homes. Make it beautiful, put in the shelves

Unless the cost is outrageous, I would add the shelf. You're already paying for a shower!

You can buy the base and then it gets covered with tile.

OP,

What color are your fixtures, you can buy corner shelves like these to match and have the tile install them:

It will be cheaper than making tile shelves.

Thanks. I talked to the guy and we found a more economical way to build the shelves. Not as refined as originally suggested, but they will do the trick.

That is so tacky

Takes one to know one. It's fine, in a seldom used shower, and will hold the soap and shampoo. Done and done.

Then you shouldnt have put anything. Instead you should have bought a shower caddy at target.

I think it looks fine and much better than the over the showerhead caddy. Sounds like you have a nice basement bathroom there. Ignore the bitchy responders.

OP, the corner thing of the tile is fine, and blends right in. Any kind of shower caddy is fine too. For a rarely used shower that is probably rarely seen. When it is time to sell, take the caddy out. NBD.
