| I'm looking for vacation ideas for next April, as it will be our 10th anniversary, and we also will be bringing our DD, who will be 2 then. We definitely want to go somewhere warm and sunny, possibly west coast as we've never been out that way. My parents (free babysitters, woo hoo) and several other family will be going, so we need ideas that would be fun for adults and children. I realize this is very broad, but I'm looking for all kinds of ideas. So what is the best family vacation you have taken with a young toddler? Thanks!! |
| Two is hard. The west coast may not be so warm and sunny at that time of year (compared to say, Florida), if you're after beach time. What's your budget? |
| My DD absolutely fell in love with South Africa when she was 2. I don't know what it is about that area, but we've been three times, and she's cried each time we've left and begs to go on the regular. We're white. We travel all the time. She's almost 4. |
| Try Carribean, an all inclusive resort. We like Aruba. |
| We like Aruba, and Grand Cayman as well, for kids. Both safe, easy to get around. GC is more expensive in my experience. I think Aruba would be easier with a toddler. Lots of options on Palm Beach and Eagle Beach. |

The one where we left him/them behind with their grandparents and had a great time together as a couple. Toddlers don't care.
~Mom of four. |
| Be prepared for 3 am wake ups on the West Coast. Not fun. |
| I would try to stay in roughly the same time zone (+/- 2 hours max). |
| Good call on bringing the grandparents! Those are the best vacations--the ones where you have babysitters. Everything else is gravy. In April, I'd probably do an all inclusive in the Caribbean. We had great weather in Punta Cana in April (DR) and cooler but still perfectly beachable weather in Puerto Plata (also DR). |

OP here, thanks for the suggestions! We have been considering an all-inclusive or cruise (we have done both, but never with kids). Haven't been to Aruba, I might look into that. DR was fun, but half of us ended up with stomach issues- and we didn't drink the water- so I'm afraid of having that happen to DD.
Good advice with the time zone, I hadn't thought of that. We are also considering Florida, but maybe skip Disney? I'm thinking maybe wait until she's old enough to ask to go, and will remember it. |
| I would stay somewhere on the beach on the east coast to not have to deal with the time change. Somewhere where toddler can nap and you can sit out on the deck/patio/balcony or whatever. With a toddler I like to have a kitchen and a separate bedroom for them |

We had a fabulous vacation with our almost-2 yo at Rosewood Little Dix Bay on Virgin Gorda. Even without grandparents around to help, it was one of the more relaxing trips we've had (which says a lot!).
Other places -- Ritz Key Biscayne, Ritz Grand Cayman. Sea Island is great but it's a little cool for making use of the ocean in April (especially for really young kids). |
| We rented a little cottage by the beach with my inlaws in tow. They took the morning shift with the kids, which was HEAVEN. |
We just had that with our 5 year old in Seattle. Pure hell. |
| Disney World. |
