The vile backsplash post has got me thinking ahead... can anyone recommend a place in the DC area to go tile shopping for something a bit nicer and more interesting than the ugly tile that started that post? So many tile stores are stuck in trends from 10 years ago -- mosaics, small busy patterns, Tuscan, greek. ugh. I'll be checking out ann sacks (but doubt I can afford it). Just by way of example, this online tile store is doing super interesting things at reasonable prices: http://store.missionstonetile.com/ Is there no where in DC to see this kind of stuff in person? |
Architectural Ceramics or Porcelanosa. Porcelanosa has a sale every November where things are 40% off. The cost at that point is actually not bad. |
There is no showroom around here that I know of, but they will send samples. I purchased some of their tile for my kitchen backsplash and absolutely love them.

Ah - I love fireclay - wanted to use them. Would second the rec for Architectural Ceramics - Porcelnosa is too bland/modern for me. |
OP here. Thanks for the recommendations. We know and like porcelanosa (and used them in a bath) but need something a little less modern for our kitchen. fyi - my contractor sent us to Mosaic Tile and we were surprised by what a nice selection they had with some interesting things. We got some samples from there, and I ordered some samples online from Mission Tile so we should be good to go from there. |
