help--paint color for bathroom with green, blue, and pink tile

Anonymous
I don't like any of the THREE colors of 50s tile we have in our bathroom and can't afford to gut the bathroom. The green is a muted green with a hint of blue, and the pink is rose pink (rather than bright pink or pastel) and the blue is sort of a soft blue. Would a silvery blue be a good paint choice? The walls are currently plain bright white, and I'm not a fan.

Light gray or cream.

Silvery/very pale gray is what I would do, yes. Or pick one of the colors in the tile and then crank it down to the palest possible of that color.

I'd buy tile paint and go to town. Stinky stuff but worth it to have plain white tile. Then I'd paint the walls whatever color I liked best in general.

Have you done it? We have terrible blue tile.

That's strange - usually there's only one ugly shade of tile in those old bathrooms. If I were you, I would look into having all the tile recoated professionally to white. It takes some skill, so I wouldn't feel comfortable doing it myself. If you don't want to or can't afford to do that, then I would go with a soft blue or rose color to complement the tile.

Look at Benjamin Moore platinum, not sure what it will do with the grout.

Definitely go with a very pale version of one of the colors in the tile. I'm not a pink person but in your case, I'd go with super pale pink.

We've done it. We're quite handy. But this doesn't take skill just patience to get it right. It's just really really stinky. It made a dark aqua turquoise bathroom look huge and gleaming white... it went from trailerparc to Martha Stewart looking.

I would go balls to the wall and paint pink. But I love wacky old MCM bathrooms.

If you want to tone it down, I'd go grey or pale greyish green. Something close to the top of the paint chip.

I would go with a light blue/gray.

Consider re-glazing the tile to all white?

We did this and it was only $1100 for the tub and the surrounding tile. Still looks new 5+ years later.
