Too many recessed light?

Anonymous
I am having recessed lights installed in my basement kitchen (7x9) and basement bathroom (4.5 x 9). I was thinking to use 6 cans in each room -- kitchen: 6 4-inch, 50w equivalent LED; bathroom: 6 3-inch, 45w equivalent LED; both with dimmers. Is it too many lights? An alternative is 5 cans in each room, but I don't like the " : - : " look. I prefer the " : : : " look. Dimmers would help if too much light.

too many recessed lights in the Bathroom is odd

That does seem like a lot of lights.

Our 17x9 kitchen has 6 4" recessed lights, three pendant lights above the island, and two windows. It's bright even when it's dark outside.

Our 5x7 bathroom has four, and would likely have been fine with two.

Six in the kitchen is fine. Why can't you do four in the bathroom?

I would do 6 in the kitchen and 4 in the bath, all of the same 4-inch 50w bulb. Then you only have to keep one kind of replacement bulb on hand.

6 cans in a 7x9 foot room is way overkill (and I love lots of light). Ditto the bathroom.

BTW, 5 is overkill, too. 4 is plenty. Add task lighting over the kitchen island or under the counters, and around the bathroom mirror, if you need more.

This is way too many. Do you have a pendant light over your island too? We have 2 chandelier pendants over our island and 5 can lights, but our kitchen is 20x10. It's not too much light.
