Paint Color for a Sunroom/Home Office

Anonymous
I need to paint what will be my new home office (formerly a sunroom/garden room) and I can't decide on any colors.

- Room size: 9.5 ft X 7.5 ft.

- There are six large windows on three walls, so it gets lots of natural light.

- The floor is a neutral tile, that looks nice, but I will be covering the majority of it with a rug.

- The desk is is a white wrap around, built in. I'm going to paint the matching shelving white, currently in an unfinished natural wood, but not nice enough to stain.

It's currently a bright sunny yellow, which I hate. I go back and forth from a silver grey (BM Silver Martin), a light blue-green (BM Kensington Green), to even a deep aqua (BM Cool Aqua). I'm also open to other paint suppliers (SW, Behr), I just list BM because they are easy to identify online.

How the heck do you fit that many windows in such a teeny tiny space (are you sure those dimensions are right?) In any case, you clearly like shades of green/aqua. I'm not a fan of any of the colors that you've chosen (actually, I have a pretty visceral negative reaction to all of them), but it really comes down to what you like and what works for you. Maybe you need Cool Aqua to get energized in the morning, or maybe Silver Marlin helps you to ease into the day. I would really consider talking to one of the in store BM color consultants to get their opinion. Colors on a paint strip or in someone else's home can look totally different from what ends up on your walls under your lighting conditions.

The measurements are correct. It's a sunroom, so two of the walls are 90% windows, the third wall has one window and the door, the color would mainly be on one small wall, that you do not directly face unless you are in the room, looking back into the house.

The teal/Aqua is vetoed, it's far too much, though I think the room can handle a bold color because of the windows and white built ins.

I'm not sold on green hues, I'm just sick of neutrals (tan, beige, grey, whites) and I hate yellow. Silver was my suggested compromise to grey.

I like the silver marlin, OP. The other two colors remind me too much of a daycare.

+1 another vote for silver marlin or similar shade.

For a more muted blue/green, check out BM Colorado Gray.

What about a dark blue, like BM Buckland Blue? It would give you some color without hitting you in the face, and since the room has a bunch of windows it can probably handle a darker color.

I think either of these would look nice with white furniture/shelving.

I like the Silver Marlin. We have a room painted Behr Light French Gray, which you should take a look at, too; it's lovely.

I like gray in general, but I think with white shelves that you can afford to do an actual color. Since you seem to like blue as well, this is

Behr Russian Blue

Behr Lagoon

Behr Bleached Denim

BM Beach Glass and Slate (blue) are two colors that I've recently used that I LOVE. What vibe are you going for, OP? What color is the rug you're using?
